At the heart of Christianity is one man, Jesus Christ.
We can all agree that there’s much brokenness in the world.
But when we honestly reflect on our own lives, we find brokenness there too. This brokenness is the result of what the Bible calls sin.
Sin is our rebellion against God.
Sin separates us from a perfect and holy God. Sin is the greatest problem that has ever faced humanity. But how will a perfect and holy, yet loving God deal with this sin problem? How can he justly punish sin and at the same time show loving kindness to sinful people like us?
Around 2000 years ago, God himself stepped onto the pages of human history.
Jesus, the Son of God, creation’s King, came in the humblest of circumstances. He lived a perfect and sinless life, doing and saying the most incredible things. Yet, despite doing no wrong, he willingly gave his life on the cross in order to bear God’s anger at sin and receive the punishment that our sin deserves. The sinless one died in the place of sinners like us.
But that wasn’t the end of the story, because 3 days later, Jesus showed his power and authority by rising spectacularly from the grave.
A Christian is someone who understands that they deserve God’s punishment because of their sin, yet trusts that Jesus has taken it for them.
Having turned their back on sin their lives have been changed and with God’s help they are seeking to live like Jesus, to please God. For Christians, there is no fear of judgement or shame, because the price for our sin has been paid in full by Jesus. We are adopted into God’s family and have hope for eternity with God as our loving heavenly Father.
We’d love to help you explore this good news further, so throughout the year at BEC we run courses which are great for anyone exploring the life and claims of Jesus Christ.
